Friends of the Longview Public Library

What is a Friend?

The Friends of the Longview Public Library is an organization of people who support the Longview Public Library with their ideas, their skills, their time, and their voices!

What do Friends do?

  • Raise money for materials and equipment that the Library cannot afford to buy with its regular budget.
  • Supply funds for summer reading activities and other Library events.
  • Assist with children’s programs by helping with crafts, serving treats, and making cookies.
  • Conduct the annual book sale, Mother’s Day rose sale, and freeway coffee stops.
  • Provide library programs which focus on special audiences: annual holiday concert for senior citizens, parent programs, author programs.

What are the benefits of being a Friend?

  • Making new friends--friends develop lasting relationships working together.
  • Providing a community service--libraries need citizen involvement!
  • Supporting the library--hundreds of hours are logged monthly on Friends computers, their gifts to the library.
  • Working with kids--summer reading, special programs--Friends’ help is needed!
  • Doing special things for senior citizens--Friends made the senior concert an annual event!
  • Learning new skills--Friends learn to “surf the Net” in a special Friends’ Internet class.
