The featured performers will be the band Mariachi Viva México, the premier mariachi in the Northwest. Founded by Humberto Guillén in 1994, their musical versatility will bring the best of Mexican musical traditions to our community. Mariachi Viva México will be “onstage” in the Longview Public Library’s Koth Art Gallery inside the Lower Floor entrance by the parking lot.
Other activities planned include face painting, balloons, a piñata, and fireside stories of Sapo y Sepo (Frog & Toad), and a tale of learning to speak “dog,” El Ladrido de Sparky. Games will include Lotería, musical sombreros, and a Mexican Memory game. Crafts and snacks with a Latin flavor (salsa, of course!) will add to the fun! Bring the whole family to this fun, free event.
This event is brought to you in collaboration with the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts and support from Foster Farms.

Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote...One School at a Time
By Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin
Three Cups of Tea is an inspiring true story of one man's mission to counteract extremism and terrorism by building schools throughout Taliban-influenced territory. In 1993, descending from a failed attempt to reach the peak of K2, Mortenson wandered away from his group into the desolate area of northern Pakistan and eventually stumbled into a village. While he was nursed back to health, he observed the children scratching their lessons in the dirt with sticks. He promised to return to build them a school. From that promise grew one of the most incredible humanitarian campaigns of our time.
The One Book: Cowlitz Reads project is supported by a grant from the Washington State Library with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
